National Action Plans - GreenVoyage2050 Programme

Did you know that one of the biggest benefits of developing a National Action Plan comes before the plan is finished? That is because the process itself brings together the people who need to make maritime decarbonisation happen: government bodies, ports, shipping, energy, finance, industry and academia. Along the way, countries can: build national ownership align priorities identify barriers and opportunities clarify responsibilities create momentum for implementation There is no single approach. Countries shape their National Action Plan around their own maritime context, institutions and national priorities, from ship energy efficiency and alternative fuels to port emissions, infrastructure, capacity-building and financing. Clear objectives, timeframes and funding then turn those priorities into action, in line with the 2023 IMO GHG Strategy. GreenVoyage2050 is currently supporting nine countries in developing their National Action Plans. In our short film, Michael Mbaru from Kenya Maritime Authority, Kaylon Young from Belize Port Authority, Allen Kisi Offea and Diana Lazarus Vasula from Solomon Islands Maritime Authority, and Sandrina Thondoo from the Cook Islands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration describe how their countries are turning national priorities into practical action.
