William Wallace rose during the Wars of Scottish Independence, when Scotland struggled against the rule of Edward I of England. He became one of the leading figures of resistance and won immortal fame at the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297, where the Scottish army shattered a much larger English force.
But Wallace's story is not only the story of victory.
It is also the story of sacrifice.
After Stirling Bridge came the hard years of war, the defeat at Falkirk, the long resistance, betrayal, capture, and execution in London in 1305.
Yet death did not destroy his legend.
Wallace became the symbol of a nation that refused to surrender.
This ballad follows his path from rebel leader to national hero — from the mists of Scotland to the scaffold in England — and remembers the man whose name became part of history.
