Niles Junction, near Fremont, California, was historically a busy junction of the Southern Pacific and Western Pacific railroads. Both SP and WP went eastward through Niles Canyon toward Altamont and Stockton and also north to Oakland, with the SP also running south toward San Jose. Now, the Union Pacific owns both railroads. Altamont Corridor Express runs commuter trains along the UP (ex WP) between San Jose and Stockton. This video, shot in 2019, shows Amtrak's Capitol Corridor, ACE, and Union Pacific freight trains in various locations at or near the junction. Unfortunately, Niles Tower is long gone.
