Learn to communicate more effectively by using metaphor in data visualization. Metaphors help people understand something new in relation to something they already know. Whether literal or abstract, metaphor can help your users understand your message by using comparisons to tangible items like height, or abstract concepts like sound as the basis for more accessible chart communication. We will walk through several examples of Tableau dashboards that use visual metaphors, and discuss what makes effective and ineffective metaphors. In this session, you'll learn how metaphors work with mental models to help users understand and retain information, as well as how to tell engaging and memorable visual stories with Tableau's out-of-the-box features by adding visual thinking techniques into their design process.
