Made It Out by Rob Matare is an afrobeats street party anthem about a whole neighbourhood celebrating surviving a hard year together. From the album December People. ▶ Stream December People everywhere: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/rob... The whole street is out tonight. Amara the nurse has finished her shift and still has moves. Tunde is on decks he built from an old chair. Kids ride on shoulders, elders take the front-row seats, grill smoke curls over the drum line and Auntie's jollof pot has a queue three deep. Nobody is flexing; everybody glows. Then the crowd goes soft as Mama comes down the road, taking it slow, and reaches the centre drum, twenty years of four a.m. starts worth every mile. By the food table a candle burns on a seat they saved, because nobody made it out alone and some paid more. So the drum plays soft for one round, then the whole street roars. Leave the lights up all year. “Hands up, we made it out. One drum in the middle.” This visualizer brings log drum, horns and a drum circle to an afrobeats celebration of community, resilience and gratitude. It is a block party song for every street that carried somebody through a heavy year, and for the mothers who worked twenty years of early mornings. Who helped you make it through your hardest year?
