Who Really Killed Frank Stilwell: The Ambush That Started Wyatt Earp's Vendetta Two days after Morgan Earp was murdered, another body was found beside the railroad tracks in Tucson. It belonged to **Frank Stilwell**. On March 18, 1882, Morgan Earp was shot from ambush while playing pool in Tombstone. Suspicion quickly fell on men associated with the Cowboy faction, and Stilwell was among those identified as suspects in the killing. For Wyatt Earp, the murder of his brother changed everything. On March 20, Wyatt, Warren Earp, Doc Holliday, Sherman McMaster and “Turkey Creek” Jack Johnson escorted the wounded Virgil Earp and his wife toward California. When the group reached Tucson, reports indicated that Stilwell and Ike Clanton were nearby. What happened next remains surrounded by conflicting testimony. Stilwell was pursued through the railroad yard. By the following morning, his body had been discovered near the tracks with multiple gunshot wounds. Witnesses described several armed men chasing him, and Wyatt later acknowledged confronting and shooting Stilwell. But Wyatt wasn't alone. Evidence and testimony connected several members of the Earp party to the killing, raising a question that has followed the story ever since: *Who actually fired the shots that killed Frank Stilwell?* Authorities treated the killing as homicide. Warrants were issued for Wyatt Earp and several of his companions. Instead of surrendering, Wyatt gathered his men and rode out. What followed became known as the **Earp Vendetta Ride**—a violent pursuit across Arizona Territory targeting men Wyatt believed responsible for the attacks on his family. In this video, we reconstruct the Tucson railroad ambush, examine the surviving testimony, separate later legend from contemporary evidence, and explore why Frank Stilwell's death became the moment Wyatt Earp stopped waiting for the courts and began pursuing vengeance himself. The famous vendetta didn't begin with a duel at high noon. It began beside a railroad track in the darkness. #WyattEarp #FrankStilwell #DocHolliday #OldWest #Tombstone #WildWest #EarpVendetta #WesternHistory
