Showtape Title: King Kat
Release Date: October 1984
This is the birthday show that was used on the King Kat showtape that released in late 1984. King Kat was a retrofit of the King who used the same fur cosmetics, but was redressed to look like Michael Jackson rather than Elvis. His white and gold suit was replaced with a red jacket and black pants, he was given sunglasses, as well as a white glove, just like Jackson himself. His guitar was also removed, and replaced with a microphone stand. Much like previous cabaret tapes, King Kat's tape consisted of original artist recordings, with intros recorded by Kenny Ingram. The only track fully recorded by Ingram was the Billie Jean Birthday, which is why it's the only segment of the show I can upload. The reason for King Kat's existence was for PTT to draw in more customers. Michael Jackson was the biggest pop star of 1984, and since PTT was falling on hard times financially, they thought thought if they had a character based off of him, they could draw in more customers. However, King Kat was too little to late, and couldn't save PTT from their bankruptcy, which occurred in late 1984. Following this, what remained of PTT would be purchased by their formal rival, ShowBiz Pizza Place, and the two companies would begin a merger, ending with them becoming ShowBiz Pizza Time, Inc by late '85 / early '86. King Kat was very short lived, and was only installed at a very small amount of locations, most, if not all of which had converted him back to The King by the time of the merger.
