In the AUTOSAR (AUTomotive Open System ARchitecture) framework, the Diagnostic Communication Manager (DCM) is a Service Layer module responsible for managing the diagnostic communication between a tester (external tool like diagnostic scan tool) and the ECU (Electronic Control Unit). It implements the diagnostic communication protocols such as UDS (Unified Diagnostic Services - ISO 14229) and KWP2000 (Keyword Protocol 2000 - ISO 14230) over CAN, LIN, FlexRay, or Ethernet.
📌 Key Responsibilities of DCM
Handle Diagnostic Requests: Receives, interprets, and processes diagnostic service requests from external testers.
Service Dispatching: Identifies the service requested (e.g., Read DTCs, Write Data, Routine Control) and routes it accordingly.
Session & Security Management: Manages diagnostic sessions (default, extended, programming) and security levels.
Communication Control: Controls the enabling/disabling of Rx/Tx of certain ECUs during diagnostics.
