Michel Meyer is a geologist who never planned to lead. After a degree and a PhD on the geology of the Geneva region, a chance lunch with his professor led him into the cantonal geology service. He went on to become Cantonal Geologist and Director of the Geology, Soils and Waste service. Today he leads the thermal and geothermal solutions activity at SIG and drives the GeoThermie2020 programme. He explains why geologists are “composite people”, able to synthesise complex, multi-faceted problems, and why that makes them well suited to the energy transition.
