I built a fuel station in my backyard. It takes free deep fryer oil from restaurants, settles it, filters it, heats it and spins it through a centrifuge. Then I pump it straight into my Jetta TDI's trunk tank and drive on it. The oil is free. The centrifuge and the fittings alone cost me about $4,000. Part 1, converting the Jetta to run on fryer oil:    • Diesel Is $7, So I Tried Running My TDI on...   What's in it: • Two 55-gallon drums: a dirty settling tank and a clean tank, with a water drain at the bottom • A gear pump, a 100-micron filter, an inline heater and a $3,000 centrifuge from PA Biodiesel • About $1,000 of brass fittings, after a long bulkhead-fitting saga • Double plywood walls, sound deadening and an exhaust fan • The fall upgrade: two Powerstroke glow plugs to heat the oil, and its own circuit from the garage • Free oil from restaurants, fueling the Jetta from the shed, and the first drive on straight veg oil This isn't a how-to. I planned it with ChatGPT and Claude and learned the rest the hard way. 0:00 The plan 1:28 The bulkhead fitting saga 3:11 The platform 4:39 Framing 5:44 The centrifuge shows up 7:00 Frame done 8:26 Enclosing it + ventilation 10:37 The finished system 11:59 The fall upgrade: glow plug heaters 16:51 Free oil from restaurants 19:01 Fueling the TDI 20:29 First drive on veg oil 22:11 What it cost #vegoil #WVO #TDI
