Above Kolios: The Skiathos Most Tourists Never See | Hike No. 6

There’s much more to Skiathos than beaches and tavernas! In this video I leave Kolios behind and head into the hills to explore a quieter side of the island that many visitors never get to see. This is Hike No. 6 from Ortwin Widmann’s excellent Skiathos hiking guide. I did the walk in August, climbing into the hills above Kolios and discovering some beautiful countryside, views and little corners of Skiathos along the way — including the small church of Agia Aikaterini (St Catherine) at Asprolithos. Walking in the August heat probably isn’t everybody’s idea of a relaxing holiday! But while the rest of the family enjoy some time by the pool, heading off with my camera and exploring the island on foot has become one of my favourite ways of experiencing Skiathos. If you know Skiathos mainly for its beaches, hopefully this gives you a glimpse of a very different side of the island.
