Ben Hope is a Munro (a mountain over 3000 feet) in the Durness, Tongue and Scourie region of Sutherland that's famous for being the most northerly peak in mainland Britain. The ascent to the top of this mountain is quite short at around 5 miles but it's also rather steep, so plan at least 6 hours for your return journey. This hike starts from the car park at the foot of Ben Hope and follows a rocky path intersected with grassy areas that's hard work when it's wet. Wet weather gear and sturdy boots are recommended at all times of the year. The complete ascent takes you 946 metres above ground level and offers excellent views along the way.
