Ferenc Fricsay - Prokofiev: Symphony no. 1

Finale: Molto vivace 10:00 I learned of Ferenc Fricsay in the late 70s and 80s from a good friend Ed Lawrence, unfortunately now deceased. He was the best and most knowledgeable classical musician I have ever met. He played piano, violin, viola, and cello all incredibly well with piano and viola being his strongest instruments. I think he had all of Fricsay’s records. We listened to Kreisler and a few other violinists, a smidgen Hofmann and other pianists, a very small sampling of Mengelberg and Concertbouw, Stokowski and Philadelphia, and a few other conductors and orchestras. We listened to many hours of Fricsay with RIAS, Berlin Philharmonic, and the orchestras that accompanied the operas and masses that he conducted.
