11 More South Texas Towns That Are Slowly Dying (And Why)

Many South Texas towns are seeing population decline. We use 2020 census data to track the changes in these communities. This investigation highlights how settlements like Seadrift, Dilley, Falls City, and La Grulla have shifted over the last decade. By comparing recent numbers against historical counts, we can see the clear patterns of rural Texas moving away from its previous population peaks. Understanding these shifts requires looking at the numbers behind the headlines. We examine the specific census data for each location to provide context on why these populations are dropping. It is a look at the reality of how these communities adapt when the numbers no longer support the growth they once saw.
