Lord Monarch: Legendary Battle Royale is an RTS Castle vs Castle game for the Sega Megadrive, it was released in 1994 for this system but seen releases on other systems before and after this version. The game was developed by Falcom, and published by SEGA.
STORY: 20/20
The story is great, you take on the role of a prince who is being tested by the King, your father, to rid the land of all the bandits and invaders so he can see if you are worthy of taking over the crown. Whilst you'd expect the story to be quite serious, as most RTS games are that I have played, this one really is comical. The story is accompanied by pictures that show reactions of characters, and when they are talking and instructing you on your mission.
GRAPHICS: 16/20
The game's graphics are quite colourful and cartoony/anime-like, even the pictures that pop up look anime-like. There's three setting that show various area locations in a different view S, M, L.. small view changes the graphics to view all the soldiers and characters, buildings, the enemy, etc as full characters, though I think the buildings to me could have looked better the rest look nice.
Medium view spans out a little to show more of the area but you don't see the characters and enemy like you do in small view. Large view is just an expanded version of medium where you see the entire area instead.
SOUND:
The music is not that bad considering it IS a Megadrive game, it's a system not very well known to pump out amazing tracks compared to the Super Nintendo/Famicom's OSTs. The OST has around 40 tracks but that also includes all the bells and whistles of sound effects.
GAMEPLAY/SYSTEMS: 18/20
It's an RTS game, you strategize where to move your groups of soldiers to tear down tress, build forts, bridges, barracks, and what not whilst taking out the opponent for the area, their land, destroying their buildings and usually killing their leader. You need to assign the TAX from your soldiers to keep your gold reserves managed so you can build more buildings, take over more land, employ more soldiers, etc.
The game can be played fully automated, which is basically what I did for the video above, otherwise I would have failed miserably. I suck at RTS games, that's no secret and i'm not a fan of the genre over all but this one seemed incredibly easy to get into, and I quite enjoyed it which is a shocker. The game also has a couple of different options, story mode, campaign mode, etc.. which is a nice touch if you are looking for a change in the game.
TRANSLATION: 20/20
The translation is nothing but amazing, it's extremely well written and funny as hell at some points and comical throughout the rest. I didn't encounter any typos or graphical errors so over all I think this translation is quite perfect.
OVER ALL:
I was quite surprised how much I liked this game considering I don't like RTS games. The translation is extremely well done and presented by Nebulous Translations. DO I recommend it? if you are an RTS fan then I certainly do recommend it. If your not an RTS fan like me I still recommend you try it, you never know.. it might change your mind.
