In this day and age, when it's so hard for artists to make any money from their art, it's hard to hold licensing and sync deals against them. You can't really even blame them for make generally more commercial sounding music. A band's gotta eat. However, in the past these acts would often leave a band or solo artist with the tag of "sell out."
Even though profiting from one's art in certain ways isn't necessarily frowned upon as much as it used to be, there's still something admirable about those who stick to their artistic vision at all cost, even if it means jettisoning long time listeners.
Talk Talk, the subject of this week's Listography, certainly did that. Leaving synth pop behind and gradually getting more experimental with every release. So, today we're looking at some other bands/artists that got less and less commercial over time. The opposite of selling out, if you will.
Let us know which artists we left out by leaving a comment below. Thanks for watching!
