They Fired the Mechanic for Refusing to Clear the Morning Bus

At an Enugu intercity depot, mechanic Nnaemeka refuses to clear a coach whose brakes worry him. Fleet owner Obinna shouts that he is a saboteur, kicks his tools into the gutter and takes his work badge in front of the driver and dispatcher. The morning passengers are moved to another bus, but the mechanic loses his wages. Driver Chuka’s earlier warning, the unsigned clearance sheets, the dispatch log and an independent inspection gradually come together. A quotation used as proof of an approved part turns out to be no paid delivery. The mechanic must defend his decision at a drivers’ association hearing while the owner confronts what the depot’s own records can establish. The coach stays off the road until documented repair and an independent retest.
