The village still has a small fishing fleet that lands catches of crab and lobster. It also features and some interesting buildings and architecture, including residential, industrial and civic uses. The village is very steep as you walk inland, and there is an extensive beach with great views across Gamrie bay to Mohr Head and eastwards across to the small village of Crovie, further along the coast.
