BSNL employees are gearing up for a major nationwide protest over a 9-year-old pay revision dispute. Around 15 BSNL staff unions have joined hands and warned of a nationwide strike from November 20 if their demands are not addressed. The employees are demanding implementation of the Third Pay Revision Committee recommendations from January 1, 2017, along with 15% fitment benefit and payment of pending salary arrears. BSNL's financial condition remains a key hurdle. The company's employee strength has fallen sharply from around 1.83 lakh in March 2018 to 54,875 in March 2026, while employee costs declined from ₹14,837 crore in FY18 to ₹7,439 crore in FY26. However, BSNL reported a ₹4,903 crore loss in FY26.
