Her Moscow Guest List Had 25 Names. Beside 16, a Later Note Read SHOT or ARRESTED: Marjorie Post For half a century, the caption under her photograph has barely changed. The cereal heiress who dined with Stalin. But a historian who went through her private papers found that Marjorie Merriweather Post never actually met him. What she did in Moscow is harder to sit with. On March 23, 1937, she seated three marshals of the Red Army at her table in Spaso House. Two months later, one of them was arrested. By June he was dead. She bought church chalices out of Soviet storerooms at one ruble a gram, weighed on a feed store scale. She mailed a warm thank-you letter to the Molotovs five months before her closest Soviet friend was arrested. And she kept the guest list from that dinner, twenty-five names pasted into a scrapbook. Beside sixteen of them, there is a later note.
