Inside the World’s Highest Bridge: How China’s Impossible Suspension Bridge Was Built!

Suspended 625 meters above the Beipan River, China’s Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is the highest bridge in the world by deck height. But building a suspension bridge across one of China’s deepest canyons created an enormous challenge. Conventional cranes and scaffolding could not reach across the gap, powerful winds threatened the unfinished structure, and the massive suspension cables had to be anchored directly into the mountains. In this video, we explore how engineers used pilot lines, cable systems and the canyon itself as part of the construction process. We also look inside the bridge’s aerodynamic design, enormous anchorages and permanent monitoring system that uses hundreds of sensors to track wind, movement and structural stress.
