Wooden shrines & thick forest on a sacred island connected to the mainland by a long footbridge. A Shinto shrine located on Take Island in Takeshima-cho, Gamagori City. According to legend, the temple was founded by the poet Fujiwara no Shunzei in 1181. Dedicated to the goddess Ichikishima-hime no Mikoto, along with Enoshima Shrine and others, the shrine is considered one of Japan's seven great Benten shrines.
