Bhuvan Bam, Gurfateh Pirzada and Nikkhil Advani on ‘The Revolutionaries’ | Spotlight

For the first time in 12 years, Bhuvan Bam shaved off his beard, and you get to see what's underneath, because Nikkhil Advani cast him as Rash Behari Bose in 'The Revolutionaries'. In this exclusive Variety India conversation, Bhuvan Bam, Gurfateh Pirzada and director Nikkhil Advani sit down together to unpack the making of Prime Video’s 8-episode period drama series based on Sanjeev Sanyal's bestselling book on the lesser-known revolutionaries of India's freedom movement. Bhuvan talks about the diet, discipline and how playing Rash Behari Bose finally got the beard to come off. Gurfateh opens up about the near-fatal horse stunt that fractured his jaw, almost blinded him, and could have killed him if the other 20 horse riders hadn't diverted in time. Nikkhil Advani is remarkably candid about his craft — why patriotism in cinema has become "boxed", why he wants to tell the story of real heroes like Sachindra Nath Sanyal, Rash Behari Bose and Bagha Jatin, why he refuses to cast the biggest stars and why he wants collaborators he can go for a drink with. The three then get real about the industry itself. Nikkhil Advani calls for cinema to stop being judged by Thursday-night box office numbers. Bhuvan Bam questions why multi-film contracts trap actors and why set food is treated as an afterthought when a crew works 16 hours. Gurfateh argues for stories that come from the heart first, not formula first. Plus: The show's 9 original songs, Bhuvan taking Rash Behari's lighter home as a souvenir, Gurfateh taking his kada and neck ornament, and Nikkhil revealing that his production house digitises and archives every prop, costume and script from every show they’ve ever made. ▶ Subscribe to Variety India for more interviews and exclusive Indian entertainment conversations. #TheRevolutionaries #BhuvanBam #GurfatehPirzada #NikkhilAdvani #VarietyIndia Credits: Production: Prime Video Interviewer: Tushar Joshi Lead Video Editor: Sanjana Bhalerao Video Entertainment Editor: Jinal Bhatt #TheRevolutionaries #BhuvanBam #GurfatehPirzada #NikkhilAdvani #PrimeVideo #RashBehariBose #BaghaJatin #BBKiVines #TaazaKhabar #CallMeBae #FreedomFighters #IndianFreedomStruggle #PeriodDrama #VarietyIndia #Sept11Release #TheRevolutionaries #BhuvanBam #GurfatehPirzada #NikkhilAdvani #PrimeVideo #RashBehariBose #BaghaJatin #BBKiVines #TaazaKhabar #CallMeBae #FreedomFighters #IndianFreedomStruggle #PeriodDrama #VarietyIndia #Sept11Release #Revolutionaries Check out below links and follow for more: YouTube: @varietyindia Instagram:   / varietyindia   X (Twitter): https://x.com/varietyindia Facebook:   / varietyindiaofficial   Threads: https://www.threads.com/@varietyindia LinkedIn:   / variety-india
