Lainey Silver and Uông Từ Thúy discuss the history, current growth of the Lindy Hop scene, and how two women shape their local communities. This video is from a live talk given on October 2, 2019 at the American Center U.S. Consulate General - Ho Chi Minh City. Lindy Hop (a form of Swing Dancing) was created in the 1930's in Harlem, New York City. It spread around the world through popular big band music. Today, Lindy Hop is experiencing a revival. Lainey Silver teaches at You Should Be Dancing Studios, runs events, and performs in New York City. Từ Thúy organizes swing dance events and teaches for Saigon Swing Cats, the swing dance community in Saigon since 2006. This talk was part of a series developed by Dao Mai. The series focuses on women’s empowerment programs to celebrate Vietnamese Women’s Day in October. All of the events are free for the public and their mission goals are strengthening respect for fundamental freedoms and social inclusion.
