Real Truck came through big time by partnering with me for this project and sending over the Rugged Ridge XHD Snorkel for the Road Rash Jeep. I filmed a full DIY install video, sharing not only the step-by-step process but also why I needed a snorkel in the first place—and why I chose this particular model. At first, I expected this install to be relatively straightforward, just a bit time-consuming due to the removal of surface-level components like the door and side panel. Boy, was I wrong. This install turned out to be a bit more challenging than anticipated. Several parts didn’t come off easily, and reassembly was definitely temperamental. All in, the install took me about 8 hours—though to be fair, I was filming the entire process and moving the camera around constantly. What I Like About This Snorkel: • Modular Design: I love that you can swap between a low-profile snorkel for everyday driving and a taller intake for serious trail and water crossings. • OEM Look: Unlike other snorkels that run a big, bulky black tube down the side of the hood, this one integrates really well with the Jeep’s lines for a clean, custom look. What Concerns Me: • Multiple Connection Points: There are six points that require watertight silicone seals. That’s a lot of potential failure points for something designed to keep water out of your air intake. • I had my friends at Black Bear Off Road in Buford, GA (shoutout to Jeepin Bubba) do a smoke test on the snorkel system, and thankfully, no leaks were found. The seals held tight. What I Don’t Like: • Inner Fender Liner Issue: This snorkel prevents the installation of an aftermarket inner fender liner on the passenger side, which could leave the wheel well vulnerable to mud, debris, and rocks. Final Thoughts: All things considered, I’m happy with the Rugged Ridge XHD Snorkel. It looks amazing and gives me the peace of mind I need for deeper water crossings. As a bonus, it also functions as a true cold air intake, which is a big win for any Jeep build. If you’re considering adding a snorkel to your rig—whether it’s this Rugged Ridge model or another—I highly recommend checking out Real Truck. Their customer service is top-notch, and their commitment to the off-road community is second to none.
