Special thank you to the SCRM staff for a truly amazing experience! Our visit to Perris and the SCRM was Utopian. Also a shout out to an old friend for the recommendation. Cab view from Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe (ATSF) warbonnet EMD FP45 108 southbound along the SCRM Right of Way (RoW) in Perris, California. This historic unit was the last passenger locomotive procured by the ATSF to pull its prestigious passenger trains before it ended these operations on May 1st, 1971 (when Amtrak assumed the role). EMD FP45 108 was was then assigned to freight service for the remainder of its career with the ATSF/BNSF. The EMD FP45 is a C-C (triple-axle) diesel locomotive that features a turbocharged 20 cylinder 3,600 hp prime mover under its cowl. Only fourteen EMD FP45 locomotives were constructed. Five to the Milwaukee Road and nine to the ATSF (with optional dynamic brakes included). 108 was comprehensively restored in 2018 and is kept safe (when not in service) within a highly secure and fully enclosed area out of the elements.
