We attempt an unforgettable 50 km journey from Jericho to Jerusalem, walking through the rugged Judean wilderness along the ancient route associated with the biblical story of the Good Samaritan. For two days, we follow narrow mountain trails through Wadi Qelt, surrounded by dramatic desert canyons, steep cliffs and miles of seemingly empty wilderness. Along the way, we visit the incredible Saint George Monastery of Choziba, built dramatically into the cliffs of Wadi Qelt. This ancient road between Jericho and Jerusalem brings the setting of Jesus’ Parable of the Good Samaritan to life in a completely different way. Walking through this harsh landscape makes it easier to understand just how isolated and dangerous this journey would have been in biblical times. And in the middle of this dry wilderness, we discover something unexpected — water flowing through the desert.
