We almost drove straight past Mae Win. Most people do. After two weeks self-driving the Mae Hong Son Loop, the car was dusty, and Chiang Mai was calling. But we had one more stop — mostly for the elephants. It turned out to be the most memorable one. 🐕🐘 THE DOG, THE MAN, AND THE ELEPHANTS We were looking for an ethical elephant sanctuary we’d found on Google. A girl pointed us in the right direction. Then a dog appeared on the jungle path — and led us the rest of the way. Whether she took us to the sanctuary we found — or somewhere else entirely — we still don’t know. We’re still not sure if she knew where we were going. But I think maybe she did. On the other side of that bridge was Mr Ken, his family, and elephants living exactly as they should. Some things you don’t need to verify.
