Lisa started methadone thinking it would be temporary. That was 13 years ago. She's still on it.
She was a University of Washington student. Now she's living in an encampment, selling fentanyl to other users to survive, and waking up every day dependent on a clinic that has no plan to get her off.
This is what harm reduction looks like when there's no exit. Methadone keeps people functional enough to stay alive — and stuck enough to never leave. Lisa knows this. She says it out loud.
This episode is a direct challenge to the idea that medication-assisted treatment is the same as recovery. It isn't. And the people living it know the difference.
