Story Is Important.

Modern MMOs that aren't as established as the giants like WoW or FFXIV often times find it difficult to find their footing once the honeymoon period of launch ends. What really makes players wants to stay? Is it the variety of content? The number of other players they see running around? I believe both contributes to staying power but why is story and lore seemingly abandoned?
