The world is building a new system for pandemic preparedness—called PABS (Pathogen Access and Benefit Sharing). The idea sounds simple: countries share pathogen samples early so scientists can develop vaccines and medicines faster. But here’s the problem 👇 👉 Pathogens and genomic data are treated as a global common—accessible anytime, 24/7 👉 Vaccines, medicines, and technologies developed from them are treated as private property We’ve seen where this leads. During COVID-19, many countries waited months—sometimes years—for vaccines, while wealthy nations secured early access. Meanwhile, countries in the Global South invest in labs, scientists, and disease detection—yet the benefits are not shared fairly. This is not cooperation. It risks becoming modern-day colonialism—where resources and knowledge are extracted, but profits and control remain elsewhere. Pandemic preparedness cannot be built on inequality. It must be based on equity, cooperation, and justice. ✊🏽 🎥 Watch Access Denied for more details: #GlobalHealth #HealthEquity #AccessToMedicines #PABS #PandemicTreaty #StopBiopiracy #DecoloniseGlobalHealth #PeopleOverProfit ##Health4All Production: Jyotsna Singh and K.M.
