World Nonprofit Day

On World Nonprofit Day, we're pulling back the curtain on what The Obama Foundation's mission looks like in practice. Our mission is to inspire, empower, and connect people to change their world. That can sound abstract. So here's what it means. At My Brother's Keeper Alliance, it looks like regional coaches, mentors, and cross-sector coalitions showing up for boys and young men of color, day in and day out, so a young man's zip code doesn't determine his life's outcome. At Girls Opportunity Alliance, it is direct investment in grassroots organizations run by the people closest to the issues affecting women and girls. These organizations are already doing the work of keeping girls in school and out of harm's way. And through our Obama Leaders, Obama-Chesky Voyagers, and Obama Scholars program, it looks like training changemakers around the world and giving them the community and space to build movements, collaborate on solutions, organize their communities, and expand progress. President and Mrs. Obama have said that these Foundation programs multiply their values and leadership lessons through thousands of changemakers who carry forward this work into their communities. Civic democracy doesn't sustain itself. It's built person by person, program by program. On World Nonprofit Day, we're honoring that work and everyone doing it alongside us.
