Why Beast Betrayed The X-Men

The extinction engineered in X-Men #36 is human extinction, not mutant extinction, and it is planned by the original Hank McCoy. The X-Men lose this fight in a room they didn't defend, beaten by a member of their own family who now calls himself the Chairman. This issue reveals why two different men are called Beast and which one to fear. The Chairman's plan involves the X-Virus, a weapon from the future that converts humans into mutants, with most not surviving the process. He seeks Magneto's tissue to complete it, offering vindication for Magneto's past actions. A decoy raid by Three K, a mutant supremacist group led by a Magneto clone named Joseph, distracts the X-Men while the true theft occurs. This group plans for mutants to replace humanity by the year 3000 through conversion. This plot is built by the X-Men's own reformer, the one scientist who spent decades arguing against such methods, now thoroughly corrupted. The offer to Magneto was never real; it was a harvest.
