ScreenTinker 3.0 is the ease-of-use release. A new account is guided from
sign-up to a screen showing its content: connect a screen with a 6-digit code
(or a browser tab), upload photos or make a sign from 14 ready-made designs
with your logo and colours. Coming from another signage app? The setup guide
imports your media, playlists, layouts, schedules and screens. New accounts
get a Simple view, with a Simple | Advanced switch for everything else.
Also new in 3.0:
Content requests: people without an account send content through a link;
nothing reaches a screen until someone approves it.
ScreenTinker Manager, an Android app for your phone; Your team invites.
Trials keep everything when they end; plan limits explain the next plan.
Screen share from the browser, Android, Pi, Windows, Mac, iPad or newer
Samsung players, to several screens, with meeting-room codes for guests.
Slides edit like PowerPoint. Menus from Square or Shopify. Experiments.
News headlines read by your server, with pictures or as a ticker.
Blank/frozen screen detection, stale content, accessibility checks, and
Generate captions with OpenAI or a local Whisper server.
What will a screen play at any time, and why. Energy and CO2e estimates.
Private A.I. on your own hardware, starter signs, translations.
Passkeys, SCIM, a full data export and a Data & privacy page.
Playlist layouts with portrait versions, campaigns, TV-safe copies of
tall videos, display links and mirrors, moving servers by import, site
caches, YouTube "Play to end", the native Raspberry Pi player on every
install, and ?autoplay_audio=1 for kiosk browsers.
Platform overview: this server's health and the trial-to-paid funnel.
Self-hosted servers show an occasional GitHub Sponsors ask.
"Screen" is the word everywhere; Add screen puts the code first.
Upgrading: Node.js 22.14+ is required, and the first start snapshots your
database. On a git install run 3.0's upgrade script (see the release
notes); Docker just pulls.
Thanks to @gainskills (playback resumes in the foreground, #625) and
@arminfauland (video posters for Android WebView, #626, and the
autoplay-audio design, #627). Thank you to @Semetra22 and @hapishyguy for
sponsoring ScreenTinker on GitHub Sponsors, and to everyone who sponsors
privately.
Everything on screen is a real ScreenTinker 3.0.0 server. Larkspur Café,
Fern & Fig and Northwind Health are invented; the "TVs" are real web players,
and the A.I. and captions run on the same machine. Some history (plays,
energy, two screen problems, the trial-to-paid funnel) was seeded.
