Home Movies: Complete Season 1 (1999)

Home Movies kicks off with a quirky, improvisational style that sets it apart from traditional animated sitcoms. The season follows 8-year-old Brendon Small, an aspiring filmmaker who creates low-budget movies with his friends Melissa and Jason. As they navigate childhood, Brendon’s divorced mom Paula juggles parenting and her career, while their soccer coach McGuirk dispenses hilariously terrible life advice. Originally aired in “Squigglevision,” the early episodes lean heavily on unscripted dialogue, giving the show a raw, offbeat charm. Though it struggled on UPN, the series found its footing—and its audience—after being picked up by Adult Swim.
