MUkraine Week 237: Dr. Oleh Wolowyna (University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, USA) Our speaker this week is Dr. Oleh Wolowyna (University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill) with a talk on his new book: Holodomor: Understanding the Great Famine of 1932 – 1934 in Soviet Ukraine. Two main themes of the talk are: (a) Testing the Soviet/Russian narrative against demographic evidence; (b) Holodomor - the most extreme famine in modern history. Oleh Wolowyna is a research fellow at the Center for Slavic, Eurasian and Eastern European Studies, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and Director of the Center for Demographic and Socioeconomic Research on Ukrainians in the United States, Shevchenko Scientific Society, New York. He has published extensively on the 1932–34 Holodomor (genocidal famine) in Ukraine and on Ukrainians in the United States and Canada.
