What does it truly mean for Jesus to have first place in everything? Not just first place on Sunday morning, not just first place in the comfortable corners of our lives, but first place in our finances, our relationships, our workplaces, and our thought lives. Colossians 1:18 plants a flag that cannot be moved: Jesus is the head of the body, the church, the firstborn from the dead, and the one who must be preeminent over all. This message challenges us to examine whether we have allowed other things to quietly step into the center, whether it is programs, community, fellowship, or even our own fears, and to reclaim the radical truth that the church is not a social club but a living organism with one head. When Jesus is genuinely the head, we are freed from the exhausting work of trying to hold everything together ourselves. The head thinks, the head directs, the head supplies. Our only job is to stay connected. That single shift in perspective has the power to transform the way we walk through every storm life brings our way.
