Back at M Bistro with two friends who really wanted to try the Wonton Noodle Soup, plus the best duck deal in Calgary. 🥟 THE WONTON NOODLE SOUP ($14.95) My friend Tera noticed that Forbidden City's version has a denser flavour, but overall she was blown away by M Bistro's. 💡 Timing tip: we went at 11:30am, 30 minutes after opening. The later in the day you go, the more time the stock has had to develop, and the denser it gets. They don't even wrap the wontons until after you order, an undeniable footprint of freshness and quality. According to the staff and owner, the noodles are made in-house too. 💰 ASIAN CFO ANALYSIS $15 gets you 5 large wontons of pure shrimp, a baseline average of $3.00 each. Now factor in 3 stalks of Chinese broccoli, a high-quality broth loaded with umami, and springy, alkaline duck egg noodles. To pull off a broth like this, the time and quality ingredients can't be skipped, yet somehow that cost isn't showing up in the price. A screaming deal. 🔥 THE XO SAUCE (FULL DISCLOSURE) We were given a free sample of their in-house XO sauce, which they normally only sell. Mixing a few spoonfuls into the soup is dangerously addictive. It elevated my already best-in-Calgary Wonton Noodle Soup into another dimension of taste. Go in a caterpillar, come out a butterfly. Ask when the last batch of duck came out, or when the next is ready. 🦆 Peking Duck: $53 🦆 Half Roast Duck daily special: $24.95 Same portion, just cut differently. That's $28.05 saved, about 53% off, and I find the half roast duck juicier too.
