Ask an American kid about the Revolution and you'll hear about tea, taxes and a guy on a horse. Ask a British kid and you'll get a shrug. A French kid will tell you France paid for the whole thing. A Canadian kid will tell you her ancestors moved because of it. A German kid might learn their princes rented out soldiers like power tools. A kid on a tiny Dutch island celebrates the first salute, a Moroccan kid learns about the first treaty, a Haitian kid learns about a drummer boy at Savannah, and an Australian kid might live in Australia because of it. Same war. Totally different stories. And somewhere in that mess, Congress made a foreign hero a promise in 1783, and finally kept it 231 years later.
