Festival of Wheels 2025 | Amazing Cars, Great People & Essex Petrolheads

I joined the Essex Petrolheads for the Festival of Wheels, meeting bright and early at Boreham Services at 6:30 am before convoying to Trinity Park. Early mornings certainly aren't my favourite, but the excitement of a great day out with fellow enthusiasts made it well worth getting up! The Festival of Wheels was packed with visitors and had something for the whole family, with plenty of entertainment and activities for the children. For me, though, it was all about the cars. There was an incredible variety on display, from classics and customs to American muscle, hot rods, and modern performance cars. It was another fantastic day spent with a great group of friends, enjoying our shared passion for all things automotive. A huge congratulations to Michael and his stunning orange bubble-arched Mk1 Ford Escort, which deservedly won the People's Choice Award. A fantastic achievement and a real credit to all the hard work that's gone into the car. The drive home, however, brought a little drama. While accelerating, the Cobra suddenly began to lose power. Thankfully, the engine didn't cut out, but it was enough to make me back off and cruise home at around 40–50 mph. I also noticed the voltmeter was reading only 12.4 volts, which immediately made me wonder if there was an electrical or charging issue. Just eight miles from home, the problem returned, and this time the car slowed to around 15–20 mph. I have to admit I was beginning to wonder if I'd make it home! Fortunately, after a few anxious minutes, the power returned, and I completed the journey without any further issues. The Cobra made it home safely, but now the investigation begins to find the cause. That's all part of classic car ownership, every drive can become an adventure!
