Detroit just paid a running back more than any team in NFL history — and history says that's exactly how you ruin a Super Bowl window. Jahmyr Gibbs' 3-year, $67.5M extension ($22.5M per year, $51.5M guaranteed) makes him the highest-paid running back ever. Gurley, Elliott, and Bell all show why that usually ends in disaster. So why did Detroit do it anyway? Because this deal has something those didn't: a $6M exit ramp, a 2027 cap hit that actually FELL $8.02M, and a 24-year-old receiver-back at the center of a 32.8-point offense. The structure, not the player, is what makes it defensible. Is Gibbs worth $22.5M a year — or did Detroit just buy the next cautionary tale? Drop your pick in the comments.
