Vishnujan Swami sings Jaya Radha Madhava in Mayapur 1975

Vishnujan Swami — Jaya Radha Madhava | Mayapur, 1975 Experience a rare and deeply moving recording from the 1975 Mayapur Festival, the second large ISKCON festival at Mayapur Chandrodaya Mandir, featuring the legendary Vishnujan Swami. 1975 was a landmark year as Vishnujan Swami’s Radha Damodara bus program expanded exponentially across North America. A charismatic leader and a soul completely surrendered to his spiritual master, AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, his kirtans became famous throughout ISKCON for their profound "bhakti" and melodic beauty. This recording is a masterclass in his unique style. Beyond his famously sweet singing voice, listen closely to his mrdanga accompaniment. Vishnujan Swami utilized a rare technique—using his fingers, palms, and knuckles on both hands simultaneously—to create a intricate, rhythmic tapestry for this beloved song. Jaya Radha Madhava was the bhajan Srila Prabhupada would sing before every Srimad Bhagavatam class, and here, Vishnujan Swami offers it back to his spiritual master with unparalleled devotion. Sanskrit & Transliteration (jaya) radha-madhava (jaya) kunja-bihari (jaya) gopi-jana-vallabha (jaya) giri-vara-dhari yasoda-nandana braja-jana-ranjana yamuna-tira-vana-cari English Translation Krishna is the lover of Radha. He displays His charming pastime of love in the groves of Vrindavan (kunja-bihari). He is the beloved lover of the cowherd maidens (gopis) of Vraja, and the lifter of the great Govardhana Hill (giri-vara-dhari). He is the beloved son of Mother Yasoda, the delight of the inhabitants of Vraja, and He wanders in the forests along the banks of the Yamuna River. This recording is one of the highlights in my archive and exudes the transcendental vibration of the 1975 Gaura Purnima festival.
