What does a jump jockey actually do on race day? And what does it take to win a race? We spent a day with National Hunt jockey Harry Skelton, documenting all sorts from his homework at the yard to a winning ride at Hereford. Harry Skelton, who rides almost exclusively for his brother, champion trainer Dan Skelton, gives us a unique insight into his routine on a day's racing. Harry has one ride, Ice Jet, in a hurdle race at Hereford. Before the race he talks us through his race plan. He walks the course to check the ground and the markers, and explains why there’s no room for error on Hereford’s short run-in. We follow him through weighing out, saddling and the build-up in the paddock, then the race itself and the winner’s enclosure. Along the way you’ll learn: – How a jockey plans a race, and why you have to stay flexible – How jockeys test the ground and the 'going' – What riding weights and kit allowances mean on the scales – How the weighing room and saddling work before the off – What a jump jockey’s week looks like in the busy season More Schöffel Country videos with Harry Skelton ▶ A day at the Skelton yard:    • Behind the scenes with Champion Jockey Har...   #HarrySkelton #HorseRacing #NationalHunt #Jockey #RaceDay #Schoffel
