NIĨ NDĨ MŨGĨKŨYŨ🛖 This is my father’s favorite song. So I did a rendition on SOUL SURVIVOR SESH 5 💜🧜🏾‍♀️🎵🌍💫 ŨKA MŨRATA TWARANĨRIE - by the indomitable legend, JOSEPH KAMARŨ There's a reason why I performed this song in a sesh about HOME & FAMILY ♥️🛖 I strongly feel that it beautifully expresses the pride I take in my ancestry♥️🛖 This song holds a special meaning for my family and I - Let me explain why. My guka fought in WW2 in Burma, and later on joined the Kenya Land & Freedom Army. My dad was a little boy during the struggle for independence, and he does share his memories of those times sometimes. Since I can remember, he has sang the song ‘Ũka Mũrata, Twaranĩrie’ almost every time he is pensive, or in a really good mood and wants to belt out a tune.♥️🛖 A few years back, my Dad told me that it is his favorite song - because Guka sang it to him alot growing up. It has since become a personal favorite. It is, to him, a way to connect with his father, because he saw firsthand what the song did to Guka - it reassured his troubled soul at a very difficult time in the 60s.♥️🛖 Guka taught this song to Dad for the same reason - it has the frequency of healing and reconciliation. My Guka is long gone now - I sang this song to honour him & to give my dad a trippy rendition of his favourite song, sung in his daughter's voice. He has now heard it in his father's and daughter's voices...♥️🛖 I am incredibly honoured that my gift brought me here, to this moment. I have handled this song with the utmost respect, and I hope that all daughters and sons of Mũmbi that hear it in my voice hear the hopeful call of my generation, and truly tap into the frequency it carries.
