Final score: 203.046.780 ------------------------------ Touhou Imitation Style is a PSP homebrew Touhou fangame, yes you heard that right, PSP. It's technically unfinished, but it's completely playable in its current state (r44, last known update in 2014). And free ofc. It was done by 2ch members and a bunch of anons. I don't think I have found footage of this version of this game before. Everything I see is from older versions... despite the video being newer than 2014. I suppose it's being based on what you find on the web archive. The game plays like a regular Touhou release, with multiple playable characters (8 variants total), 6 stages with bosses, an extra stage and a phantasm stage while we're at it. Conversely, despite being updated around 2014, it adopts mechanics similar to EoSD, like the 128 power limit, the boss health bar, score items having value only if maxed and while on a chain, and point items deprecating in value if not being grabbed while actively staying near the top of the screen. The only "gimmick" the game has, if you can call it one, is that all characters share the same option system. You start with 2 at 8 power, and you get 2 more at 96. You can press a button to rotate between 4 possible formations: dead center, sidelining you, orbiting you or away from you, positioned in a static manner at the bottom of the screen. This last one is the best for stages as it covers a wide area and can deal with most enemies. For bosses I found the sideline formation the most efficient. Score comes from killing enemies, grabbing items and grazing. Grazing in particular is pretty good, you'll get 1M points every 200 bullets grazed if on Lunatic because the difficulty multiplier is absurdly high for some reason, which may or may not make a difference on parts. Score items also have massive value on Lunatic, 51200 vs 11000 on Normal. The characters themselves are diverse. You have Reimu and Marisa, the main characters that have two variants, and I consider them the "traditional" characters. You max out your power and then just do what you can. The "alternate" characters all share a mechanic where you get an extra bomb if you max out your power bar, and then it gets reset to 64 to start the process all over again. This sounds "bad" on practice were they to have the same damage as the traditional characters. But for some reason all of them have a rather buffed shot damage??? So they are by no doubt easier to clear the game with, in particular Yuyuko makes it a snoozefest, being the equivalent to MoF MarisaB but permanently. The game has some strange decisions, result of being a prototype. Stages are short and wave types are limited. Balance is all over the place, some enemies stay for less than a second, some spells last for 99 seconds, others have so much armor/health you can't kill them without spamming bombs (not worth it), and Stage 5 in particular is the epitome of "unfinished" being easier than Stage 1 in almost everything, to the point that even some patterns are easier in Lunatic than in Normal like wtf. Kaguya appears in Stage 3 and she's stupid hard if you're using the traditional characters, because during her spells you will be ambushed by "branches" from behind, and also she shoots a laser barrage that's relative to her position and is SO fast it would look better in a Psikyo game. And when she start moving around and yeah. I recorded a clear with all characters but I chose to showcase MarisaA because I personally found it the hardest. Mediocre damage, a rather high speed, mediocre bombs, VERY small deathbomb window that the input lag only amplifies it (I had very little but it was no Touhou Vpatch), graze radius not high enough, and at maxed power her item recollection threshold decreases but you STILL get items at lower value so you're still encouraged to go as high as originally so it's a detriment for scoring. At least you can get like one more extend with the increased score potential. But in summary, you can choke more easily with her than with Reimu. 0:00 Stage 1 4:15 Stage 2 9:02 Stage 3 14:54 Stage 4 20:39 Stage 5 26:07 Stage 6 32:27 Ending & Credits
