Lacson seeks to defund persistently non-performing GOCCs

Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson proposed reducing or defunding persistently non-performing government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) that continue to receive annual subsidies despite generating little or no revenue. Lacson raised the proposal during the Development Budget Coordinating Committee (DBCC) briefing on the proposed P7.2-trillion national budget for 2027 on Thursday, Aug. 27, saying public funds could instead be redirected to agencies that can generate more revenue.
