How to Make and Use a Snelgrove Board

A full Snelgrove Board, also known as a double screen board can be used for swarm prevention, making splits, and to help keep a weak colony warm when placed on top of a strong colony in cold weather. This video shows how I make the full Snelgrove Board / double screen board. The video also discusses how to use it. Leonard Snelgrove invented the Snelgrove board and Snelgrove method of swarm prevention in 1934. He describes the design of the full Snelgrove Board that has six gates on the board and his two methods of using a full Snelgrove Board in his book: Swarming Its Control and Prevention. ISBN 978-0-905652-39-9 It is an excellent book. The book also describes swarm prevention methods discovered by other early beekeeping pioneers. Beekeeping today is so important because honey bees are facing so many challenges today. Beekeepers need to be educated in order to avoid losing their hives and their investment in beekeeping.
