The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth, but His voice can be quenched when the self becomes the centre of our lives. Fr Michael Payyapilly VC reflects on how ego, self-made moral boundaries and the desire to justify ourselves can make our own voice louder than the Spirit and turn apparent freedom into slavery. Christian freedom is not freedom from God, but freedom to receive His truth and allow Him to mould us. Fr Michael invites us to recognise the battle between flesh and Spirit, to acknowledge the Holy Spirit's presence and to desire His voice more deeply so that He can prepare us for eternal life.
