Day 2 Pt4 - Dovedale Stepping Stones - Lovers Leap & The River Dove - Peak District Derbyshire

My Siso ‪@TheArual1‬ We spent some time walking the River Dove, with the main objective of walking the over the 16 limestone blocks spanning the River which were first laid around 1890 to help Victorian tourists cross the river. This path then carries on for 3 miles with several natural attractions on the way. Many of which we did not get to see as time was once against us in the end, and the walk was quite enduring. We did cross the stepping stones, see Lovers leap and visit a cave we thought was Reynard's cave, we missed the turning for that one. Lovers leap is re-enacted in this video but the story goes, a young woman heard the mistaken news that her sweetheart had been killed fighting in the Napoleonic Wars around 200 years ago. Overcome with grief, she climbed to the top of the high limestone crag and threw herself into the ravine below. Her billowing skirts reportedly caught in the tree branches on the way down, breaking her fall and saving her life. The Twist is she returned home to the joyful surprise that her lover was actually alive and well, and returning safely from the war.
