I got shoved so hard at a Colombian football derby that I flew a few rows forward. For a moment, I genuinely thought I'd broken my leg.
But that was just one part of the experience.
I was in Medellín to witness El Clásico Paisa — the historic rivalry between Independiente Medellín and Atlético Nacional. Several thousands of fans, nonstop chanting, fireworks, smoke, and an atmosphere unlike anything I'd experienced in Europe.
And with a Copa Colombia quarter-final at stake, nobody was holding back.
During my journey from Hungary to Patagonia, travelling almost entirely without flying, I didn't expect one football match in Medellín to become one of the wildest experiences of my trip.
The match ended 3–2, but the experience was about much more than the final score. It was about the people, the passion, the rivalry, and what football means to a city like Medellín.
Welcome to El Clásico Paisa.
